Sharon Singer

Sharon Singer was born in England, in 1965 and now resides and works in Ōtepoti Dunedin New Zealand She gained a BA in Visual Art and Design (2000) and completed her MFA at the Dunedin School of Art (2008). She has participated in numerous solo exhibitions, group shows and national awards including NZ Portrait Award, Wellington (Finalist 2000), James Wallace Art Award Auckland (finalist 2003), Waikato National Art Award, Hamilton (Merit 2001), and Norse wear Art Award (Winner 2002).

Recognised for her ability to subvert classical European fairy tales, Singers imagery for the last decade has become increasingly focused on melding allegorical storytelling and environmental themes Her narrative driven paintings have featured in literature such as Don't Cry For Us: The Art of Sharon Singer by Scott Flanagan, ed. Her work has also been featured in a cameo on the television documentary series Grand Designs New Zealand (2015) and on several album covers.
