Thomas Hancock

Thomas Hancock is an Ōtepoti Based artist specialising in oil painting.

“I grew up in Te Awakairangi (Lower Hutt) and moved to Ōtautahi (Christchurch) to study painting. I graduated from Ilam School of Fine Arts in 2016 with a Master of Fine Arts (Painting) with Distinction. Since then I have been exhibiting my work in Aotearoa and Australia, as well as painting murals.”

“My oil paintings are in the genre of still life. I create my subject matter through a process of sculpture, photography, and digital manipulation, ultimately to serve as the basis for a painting. The Results are seemingly imagined or abstract depictions of objects that have a grounding in reality.”
